The Silence from Those We Once Trusted

Insight

This piece is inspired by the quote, “In the end, we remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends,” by Martin Luther King Jr. While getting tricked, or hurt by an adversary is expected, getting abandoned by friends or family members comes as a complete shock and can invoke a feeling of betrayal opponents could never cause. The three people walking away from the cliff edge were previous friends of the man they were leaving behind. The sunset in the sky shows the waning hope this man has, as the sun dims. The hands pulling the person hanging off the cliff edge represent the many troubles and struggles that every human faces. While we tend to rely on trusted people around us during difficult times, if they should choose to turn away, the pain will be greater than any other feeling.
